How to Remove a Manicure at Home: A Step-by-Step Guide

Are you tired of your current manicure and want to remove it without a trip to the salon? We've got you covered! In this blog post, we will provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to remove a manicure at home, saving you time and money.

There are three ways to safely remove your dip manicure at home. We like to refer to these methods as the foil wrap method, the baggie method and the nail spa method.

1. Foil Wrap Method

One of the most common ways to remove your dip manicure is by wrapping your nail enhancements in an acetone soaked cotton ball and foil. You're going to want to start out by gathering the necessary supplies: 100% acetone, cotton balls, aluminum foil sheets, a cuticle pusher or manicure stick and a nile file and/or buffer. Start off by trimming and filing your nails down to the desired length. Next, you're going to want to file off your top coat. This step is important as it will allow the acetone to penetrate the dip powder on your nails. Pour a small amount of your 100% acetone solution onto a cotton ball or pad. Place the acetone-soaked cotton ball on top of your nail and secure it with aluminum foil. Repeat this step for all nails. Allow the acetone to penetrate and soften the layers of dip on your nail. This may take 10-20 minutes. After that, you're going to want to remove the foil wraps from one nail at a time and gently scrape off the softened dip powder using a cuticle pusher or manicure stick. Repeat this step for all nails. Once all the product has been removed, wash your nails with warm water and soap. Apply hand lotion and cuticle oil to moisturize your nails and cuticles.

2. Baggie Method

Another popular way to remove your dip powder manicure at home is the baggie method. The key to this removal hack is the warm water. You're going to want to start out by gathering the necessary supplies: 100% acetone, a plastic bag, a medium sized bowl, warm water, a cuticle pusher or manicure stick and a nile file and/or buffer. Start off by trimming and filing your nails down to the desired length. Next, you're going to want to file off your top coat. After that, fill your medium sized bowl up with warm water. You DO NOT want to use hot or boiling water with this method. Next, pour a little bit of 100% acetone into your plastic bag. Some people like to add a little bit of coconut oil into the bag as well to prevent their hands and nails from drying out. (Please note that this will dilute the acetone and may slow down the process a bit.) Take your plastic bag and put it inside of your bowl. Next, you can insert your hands into the plastic bag and allow your nails to soak for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, remove your hands and gently scrape off any remaining product. Repeat this step for all nails. Once all the dip powder has been removed, wash your nails with warm water and soap. Apply hand lotion and cuticle oil to moisturize your nails and cuticles.

3. Nail Spa Method

One of our favorite methods for removal is the nail spa method. You're going to want to start out by gathering the necessary supplies: 100% acetone, your nail spa(s) that come in our removal kit, warm water, a cuticle pusher or manicure stick and a nail file and/or buffer. Start off by trimming and filing your nails down to the desired length. Next, break the seal of your manicure by filing off your top coat. After that, you're going to want to get your nail spa ready. Separate the top and bottom compartments of your nail spa. You're going to pour your warm (NOT boiling) water into the bottom compartment and fasten the nail spa lid or top compartment back on top. Next, pour a little bit of your 100% acetone solution into the five finger pockets. Repeat these steps if you're using a second nail spa. (We have two hands after all!) Optional step: add cotton balls into the finger pockets to help break down the dip powder. Wait a minute or two to allow the warm water to heart up the acetone. Remember, warm acetone will help speed up the process! Next, insert your nails into the finger pockets. After about 7-10 minutes, remove your hands and gently scrape off any remaining product. Repeat this step for all nails. Once all the dip powder has been removed, wash your nails with warm water and soap. Apply hand lotion and cuticle oil to moisturize your nails and cuticles.

4. Swift Soak Method

One of the quickest and most efficient ways to remove your at-home manicure is by using our Swift Soak Removal System. You're going to want to start out by gathering the necessary supplies: 100% acetone, Swift Soak bowl, warm water, and a nail file. You can purchase these supplies together in our Swift Soak Removal Kit. First, assemble your Swift Soak system. You are going to want to pour warm water in the bottom compartment to the fill line. Fill the top compartment with about 1/4-1/3 cup of 100% acetone, making sure the silicone scrubbers are completely submerged. Attach your lid to prevent any acetone from splashing onto your workspace. While you allow the acetone to heat up for a couple of minutes, trim or file your nails down to the desired length. Next, break the seal of your manicure by filing off your top coat. Next, put both of your hands into the Swift Soak and gently rub the surface of your nails on the silicone scrubbers to remove your nail enhancements. After about three minutes, your previous mani should be gone and you're ready for a fresh manicure! Wash your nails with warm water and soap. Apply hand lotion and cuticle oil to moisturize your nails and cuticles.

By following this step-by-step guide, you can easily remove your manicure at home. These three methods will help you achieve clean and healthy nails without the need for a professional salon. Save time, save money, and enjoy the satisfaction of a fresh canvas for your next manicure!
